Our Services Tree TrimmingA good healthy tree should have a minimum of 65% foliage. When trimming, you should never remove more than 20% of the live foliage in a given year. After a full year the tree may be trimmed again to achieve the desired end result. Trimming more than 20% may stress the tree, and cause it to produce "water sprouts" in an attempt to replace what the tree has lost. On a tree with poor vigor, minimal trimming is advised. |

The very best time of year to trim is generally late fall through winter as fungi and deseases are dormant.
Spring through fall are good times to trim. Exception: Red Oak trees are susceptable to "Oak Wilt" from middle of April through October. The picnic beetle is active during this time of the year, which spread the oak wilt to the fresh cuts on the oak tree. To prevent this, we seal each cut. When at all possible, we will use the bucket truck to reach high limbs. When it is necessary to climb a tree, we use the "free climbing" method. We will not use spikes, as spikes do injure live trees. Trees should never be "topped", as it could cause the tree to rot from the top down. Any cut greater than 5 inches in diameter will most likely never heal over, and therefore should be avoided. |
